SYRACUSE, N.Y. - October 26, 2022 - (Newswire.com)
Marvin Druger, a biologist and a renowned science educator, has completed his new book "Strange Creatures and Other Poems about Life": a whimsical collection of poems and original illustrations that spark joy and creativity.
Marvin discusses his work, writing, "Every second of our lives, we experience something new. Even a repetition of the same experience is not exactly the same. We learn from everything that we do, and everything that we do becomes part of what we are. This book reflects on our everyday experiences and our environments."
He continues, "Sometimes life is sad; sometimes it is fun; sometimes it is ridiculous. These different moods and observations appear in the poems. They provide positive insights about life that stimulate readers to reflect on their own lives."
In his legendary general biology course at Syracuse University, author Marvin Druger tried to provide meaningful, motivational experiences that enriched the lives of students and helped them identify their unique talents and where they fit in life. His life-size cutout at the Syracuse University Bookstore welcomes students to the world of books and scholarship.
Marvin Druger was chair of the department of science teaching, professor of biology and science education, and Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Professor for Teaching Excellence at Syracuse University. He retired in 2009 and is now a professor emeritus. He taught science for more than 55 years to more than forty thousand students and served as president of three international science education organizations—that is, the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), the Association for Science Teacher Education (ASTE), and twice president of the Society for College Science Teachers (SCST). He also served as chair and secretary of the Education Section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He has received numerous science education and teaching awards. In his retirement, he is a columnist for "Fifty-Five Plus" magazine (Druger's Zoo) and hosts a radio program on WAER-FM 88.3 ("Science on the Radio"). He also organizes and directs a Saturday Enrichment Program for Talented High School Students (Frontiers of Science) and does poetry readings for elementary school students and others. He also provides campus tours of Syracuse University for staff and students.
Published by Newman Springs Publishing, Marvin Druger's creative collection of poetry encourages readers to think deeply about their impact on the world.
